Viola Powers FreedViola Powers Freed Viola Powers Freed, 87, formerly of Bainbridge, Ohio and more recently of Waverly, Ohio went home to be with Jesus at 11:50 p.m. Friday, March 15, 2013 in Traditions at Bristol Village. She was born January 16, 1926 in Whitley County, Kentucky, the daughter of the late Pete Lambdin and Mary Lillie (Fuson) Lambdin. On December 4, 1971 Viola was united in marriage to James Edward Freed who preceded her in death on October 5, 2012. Surviving are children, Geraldine “Geri” (Estel) James of Waverly, Bobby Jean Uhrig of Chillicothe, Curley Glen (Regina) Powers of Chillicothe, Rev. Jerry Eddie (Beverly) Powers of Chillicothe, Garrett Monroe (Becky) Powers of Waterford, two foster daughters, Ann Powers of Chillicothe, Sue Kepler of Williamsburg, KY, fourteen grandchildren, Mark James, Ronda (Ty) Vickers, Lisa Uhrig, C. Glen Powers, Richard (Sarah) Powers, Tracy (Mark) Gabathuler, Karen (Mason) Purdum, David (Jessica) Powers, Jason (Rebekah) Powers, Tyson (Lori) Powers, Aaron (Heather) Powers, Mandy (Greg) Penisten, Casey LeMaster, Rachel (Wayne) Huddleston, twenty great-grandchildren, Tyson, Kaylyn, Jillian, Alaina, Faith, Noah, Emma, Alex, Maddie, Brodie, Matt, Peyton, Parker, Cordelia, Amos, Celeste, Jasmine, Abby, Jordan, Olivia, five step children, Eugene Erwin, Carol (William) Martin, Sandy Freed, William A. Freed all of Columbus, Ohio, Mary Manter of California, several step grandchildren, step-great-grandchildren and special caregiver, Holly Tackett. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, three brothers, Ernest, Ancil and Clarence Lambdin, sister, Laura Kishpaugh, great grandson, Mason Garrett Powers and son-in-law, Ronald Uhrig. Viola was a homemaker, Certified Lay Speaker of the United Methodist Church, Circuit Rider of “Bluebird Parish” and a member of Nipgen United Methodist Church. Funeral services will be held 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, March 20, 2013 at the Spargursville Church of Christ in Christian Union Church with Rev. Sammie Cooper and Rev. Haden Davis officiating. Burial will follow in Twin Township Cemetery. She was born 20 August 1955 in Bucyrus, OH the daughter of the late Claude Taylor and Helen Marie (Horvavious) Taylor. Sheila was united in marriage to Enoch E. Lawson on 10 May 1974 who preceded her in death on 6 March 2012. Surviving are three sons, Jerry Lawson and wife Teresa of Waverly, OH, Enoch Lawson and wife Rhonda of Waverly, OH, Bobby Lawson and wife Amy of Ray, OH and a daughter, Robin Slusher and husband J.C. of Jackson, OH, 10 grandchildren and a great granddaughter, three brothers, Emery Taylor and wife Debbie of Bucyrus, Oh, Paul Taylor and wife Dorothy of MI, Edward Taylor and wife Jeannie of Waverly, OH and two sisters, Karen Jenkins and husband Ray of Ironton, OH and Nancy Chapman and husband Bill of Clyde, OH In addition to her parents, and husband, a grandson Jacob Lawson preceded Sheila in death. She was born August 30, 1935 in Colliers, West Virginia to the late Lonnie Jones and Elizabeth Sims Jones. On October 6, 1952, Bonnie was united in marriage to Murl Dale Hostutler who preceded her in death on July 8, 1984. Surviving is a daughter, Nora Elizabeth Hostutler of Darbydale, Ohio, one son, Samuel Hostutler and wife Alicia of Waverly, two grandsons, one granddaughter, special great grandchildren, John, Xavier Dale, Weston and Lincoln Hostutler and three other great grandchildren. Also surviving is a brother, Wilbur Jones and wife Judy of Chillicothe, Ohio and a sister, Pauline Cantrell and husband John of Ft. Pierce, Florida. In addition to her parents, and husband, a son, Murl Dale Hostutler, Jr., and infant daughter, Althea Jo Hostutler and daughter Evelyn Cleo Hostutler, as well as an infant brother, and brother, Lonnie Jones preceded Bonnie in death. Bonnie was a retired technician for Liebert Corporation and a member of the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses. She was born April 23, 1933 in Waverly to the late Clarence Young Dyke and Viola Beatrice (Massie) Dyke. On July 9, 2007, Ada was united in marriage to William Thomas Magill who preceded her in death on January 29, 2008. Surviving are three sons, Thomas A. Bailey and wife Tamarah of Circleville, OH, Donald Lee Bailey and wife Connie of Waverly, OH, Jamey Scott Bailey and wife Dawn of Waverly, OH, two daughters, Sandra Ramey and husband William of Las Cruces, NM, Kristina Callaghan of Belmont MA, seven grandchildren, eight great grandchildren, the father of her children, Thomas F. Bailey, Jasper, OH, a brother, Darrell Lee Dyke and wife Donna of Circleville and a sister, Joann Smith and husband William of Circleville. In addition to her parents, and husband, a brother, William Dyke preceded Ada in death. Ada was a homemaker and a retired Nurses Aide. Edward H. CarterEdward H. Carter On March 23, 2013 our beloved husband, daddy and “Papum”, Edward Harold Carter, Sr. left this earthly world to wait for us in heaven. He passed from this world quietly in the home built with his own hands. His family was his pride and joy, and he loved to “brag” on them. He leaves behind his beloved wife of 47 years, Darlene Carter whom he loved and adored; three children who each will carry a piece of him with them forever, his eldest daughter, Marsha Elaine (Keith) Stewart, his “middle child” MarKell Edana (Jeff) Mettler and his namesake, Edward Harold (Janelle) Carter, Jr. He also leaves eight grandchildren with whom he laughed and played, and will always be “tight”. They are Jessica, Katherine and Kassandra Stewart; Alexis and Lucas Mettler; and Edward (Trey) III, Breeanna and Zane Carter, He had one great grandson, Jameson. Also surviving are one brother and one very special sister-in-law, Leonard and Joy Carter, with whom he shared a special bond, and was by his side during his many “projects”. He is also survived by his two baby sisters, Helen Brannan and Ellen (Cliff Hughes) Claytor, and Joyce Tackett. He also left behind numerous nieces and nephews to whom he will always be “Uncle Roe”. He was proceeded in death by his father and mother, Okie and Ruth Carter; three brothers, Harlen Ray, Kenneth Bruce and Okie “Cecil”. He was a real estate agent with Doles Realty, Inc, and prepared taxes at his home office for over 50 years. Harold “Stick” Carter was an amazing man who served his country with pride as a United States Marine during the Vietnam era from 1961 to 1967 and again as a member of the United States Air Force. He was a member of the Logan Elm Masonic Lodge #624. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 am on Wednesday, March 27, 2013 at BOYER FUNERAL HOME, WAVERLY OHIO with Pastor Rick Hartley officiating. Graveside services will be by the Ross County Veterans honor guard. Burial will be at the Mountain Ridge Cemetery. Friends and family may call at the Boyer Funeral Home in Waverly on Tuesday, from 5 to 8 pm with Masonic services being conducted at 7 pm by Logan Elm Lodge. In honor of his passion for education, memorial contributions can be made to PO Box 973, Chillicothe, Ohio 45601 and will be used to establish a scholarship fund in his memory. His love for his courtyard and his crazy Christmas surprises will live in the hearts of all who love him forever. Our lives will never be the same. We love you more.

Surviving are four children, Lee May and wife Kelly of Waverly, Ohio, Lyn May of Waverly, Tina Tuck and husband George of Cincinnati, Ohio, Shawn McBee of Waverly, five grandchildren, four brothers, Richard May of Sabina, Ohio, Ralph May of Piketon, Gary May of Waverly, Terry May of Bainbridge, Ohio, four sisters: Phyllis Carter and husband James of Peebles, Ohio, Wanda Montgomery of Piketon, Cathy McCoy and husband Henry of Hookerton, North Carolina and Carol Frederick of Piketon. In addition to his parents, two sisters: Cherry Cook, Mary Vallino and a brother, Cary May preceded Harold in death. Harold was a retired truck driver and a U.S. Army veteran having served during the Korean Conflict. Funeral services will be held 11:00 a.m. Saturday March 30, 2013 at the Boyer Funeral Home in Waverly with Rev. Terry McBee officiating. Burial will follow in Gardner Cemetery, Waverly, with a military graveside service conducted by American Legion Merritt Post 142, Waverly. Also surviving are two sons, Timothy D. Cassady and wife Kristeen, Mechanicsburg, OH, David Cassady, Raleigh, NC, six daughters, Loretta K. Alley and husband Wayne, Lucasville, OH, Renee L. Howard and husband Jerry, Otway, OH, Tammy Perry and husband Brian, Springfield, OH, Kim Nott and Stu Kinnison, Fort Meyers, FL, Teri Tennant and husband Michael, Sebastian, FL, Kelli Styer and George Effing, Fort Meyers, FL, 16 grandchildren, 7 great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. James "Drew" AntisHanfred R. Seela, MD Hanfred R. Seela, MD formerly of Carmel, IN. and Siesta Key, FL. Passed away peacefully in his sleep on April 16. He was born in Hamburg, Germany in 1925, the only child of Robert & Frieda Seela. He and his parents immigrated to the United States in 1927 when his parents sought a better life in America. He was accepted into the US Navy V-12 program at Princeton University in 1942. He graduated from Princeton University and Syracuse University Medical School with an MD degree with a specialty in Obstetrics and Gynecology. He served 2 years as a Doctor in in the US Navy before settling in Ridgewood, NJ where he started a family and what was to become a large and successful medical practice. He was on Staff of The Valley Hospital in Ridgewood since it’s founding in 1955, until suffering a stroke in Oct. 1987. He is survived by his wife of 25 years, Jacqueline (nee Kelley) and by his children from his 1st marriage, Laurie Wolynec (Edward) of Bethesda, MD, Robert Seela of San Diego, CA, Elizabeth Derr (Darreck) of Poway, CA step children Erin Thompson (Christopher) of Athens, OH and Timothy Kelley of Hampton, New Hampshire. Grandchildren Teddy, Peter, Christina, Melissa, Wesley and Bailey. A Memorial Service celebrating his life will be held in Waverly, OH on May 18. He was born 26 September 1954 in San Diego, CA the son of George W. Rudd of Waverly, OH and the late Norma Jean (Kinney) Rudd. He was united in marriage to Catherine (Kniceley) Rudd on 31 December 1994, who survives. Also surviving are brother, Dorsie Rudd of Loraine, OH, two sisters, Paula Sue Calhoun and husband James of Nicholasville, KY and Gina Nesser of Piketon, OH, stepmother Mary Ann Rudd of Waverly, OH, two stepsons, Larry W. He was born July 15, 1937 in Clarksburg, Ohio the son of the late Glen Sowers and Jean (Speakman) Sowers. On December 9, 1960 Robert was united in marriage to Phyllis Jean Sowers who preceded him in death on October 22, 2010. Surviving are five children, Carolyn Sowers, Bobbi Ritchhart and husband Dan, Michael Sowers, Steven Sowers and wife Tracy, Angela Sowers all of Waverly, Ohio, ten grandchildren, five great-grandchildren, two sisters, Jeane Hatcher and husband Al and Soni Crabtree and husband Gary both of Waverly, Ohio. His parents, wife and two sons, Russell and Michael Sowers, preceded Robert in death. He was retired from Mead Corporation, Chillicothe, Ohio and a U.S. Navy Veteran having served on the USS Bigelow Destroyer (DD-942). Graveside services will be held 1:00 p.m. Sunday, April 28, 2013 with Elder Therman Rigsby officiating at the Evergreen Union Cemetery, Denver Road, Waverly, Ohio. Wanda L. BurkittWanda L. Burkitt Wanda Leone (Matthews) Burkitt, 93, of Sunfish Creek Road, Piketon, Ohio, died Wednesday May 1, 2013 at Traditions Nursing Center in Waverly where she had been a patient for the past three years. She was born March 19, 1920, in Pike County, the daughter of the late William Thomas Matthews and Anna Mae (Holobaugh) Matthews. On September 30, 1938, she was united in marriage to Elmore Burkitt who passed away from this life in 2003. Surviving are three sons: Kenneth G. (Barbara) Burkitt, Morris F. (Nancy) Burkitt, and Delmar Burkitt all of Piketon, Ohio. Also surviving are 7 grandchildren, 10 great grandchildren and 2 great great grandsons. In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by 3 brothers: Wesley Matthews, Raymond Matthews and Austin Matthews; 4 sisters: Grocie Williams, Opal Dunn/Ferrin, Esther Mossbarger/Throckmorton and Dorothy Dunn; 1 granddaughter; 1 great grandson Evan Burkitt; and 1 daughter-in-law Jeannine Burkitt. Wanda was a retired school cook and a homemaker. She was a member of the Bethel Christian Church where she was in regular attendance until the last few weeks of her life. During the last three years at the nursing home, she became friends with many of the other residents and with staff members. She loved wheeling herself around the halls visiting others and also participating in many of the activities provided by the staff. Funeral services will be held 2:00 p.m. Saturday May 4, 2013 at the Howe Wheeler Boyer Hornback Funeral Home in Piketon, Ohio with Rev. Scott Dunn officiating. Burial will follow in Bethel Cemetery, Piketon, Ohio. She was born October 27, 1928 in Stockdale, Ohio to the late Rev. Lawrence and Dora (Brand) Schmitt. On February 25, 1956 Kay was untied in marriage to Jefferson O. Roach who preceded her in death on October 29, 2004. Surviving are a sister, Mary Swick of Delaware, Ohio, two nieces, Jean Welsh and husband Rodney of Delaware, and Vickie Brewer and husband Wayne of West Milton, Ohio; a great niece, 4 great nephews and a great great niece. Kay was a member of First Methodist Church, Zephyrhills, Florida and a beautician. Graveside services will be held 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday, May 7, 2013 at Mound Cemetery, Piketon, Ohio with Rev. Dan Evory officiating. Arrangements are under the direction of the Boyer Funeral Home, Waverly, Ohio.

He was born December 17, 1922 in Omega, Ohio the son of the late William Stanley and Amy (Ray) Scott. On November 30, 1957 James was united in marriage to Bessie Paige (Ruffin) Scott who preceded him in death on December 3, 2007. Surviving are two daughters, Linda McMullen and husband Kevin of Waverly, Brenda Oliver and husband Melvin of Beaver, Ohio, a sister-in-law, Mary Scott of Waverly, three grandchildren, Joseph Bowen, Jessica Bowen and Brian McMullen, three great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents and wife, three brothers, John William Scott, Richard Calvin Scott and Hubert Stanley “Jack” Scott and three sisters, Dorothy Weinrich, Matilda Sage and Jean Schmitt, preceded James in death. James was a farmer and a member of the Omega Methodist Church. Funeral services will be held 4:00 p.m. Monday, May 6, 2013 at the Boyer Funeral Home with Rev. Hayden Davis officiating.
