Sherry Lou KellySherry Kelly Sherry Lou Kelly, 67, of Cedar Hill Drive in Waverly, Ohio, went home to be with the Lord at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday October 3, 2012 at Traditions at Bristol Village in Waverly. She was born December 16, 1944 in Henderson, Kentucky, to the late Richard N. Henderson and Sarah G. Haynes Henderson. On September 7, 1961, Sherry was united in marriage to Charles Michael Kelly who survives. Also surviving is a daughter, Kristi Rhoads and husband Mark of Waverly, three sons, Bill Kelly and wife Teresa, Jim Kelly and wife Michelle, Mike Kelly and wife Jennifer all of Waverly, nine grandchildren, a great granddaughter, two sisters, Pat Letche and husband Ralph of Chillicothe, Ohio, Jeannie Robinson and husband Dan of Waverly as well as three brothers, Richard Henderson and wife Linda, William Henderson both of Waverly, and Charles Henderson and wife Jonda of Chillicothe. Sherry was a loving wife, mother and grandmother and a member of Calvary Baptist Church in Piketon, Ohio. Funeral services will be held 2:00 p.m. Sunday October 7, 2012 at the Boyer Funeral Home in Waverly with Pastor Jon Black officiating. Freed James Edward Freed, 88, of East Fifth, Waverly, Ohio died Friday, October 5, 2012 at Columbus West Park Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in, Columbus, Ohio He was born December 19, 1923 in Dennison, Ohio, son of the late James Arthur and Florence Evelyn (Bridgeman) Freed. On December 4, 1971 James was united in marriage to Viola (Lambdin) Powers Freed who survives. Also surviving are two sons, Eugene Erwin and William A. Freed both of Columbus, three daughters, Carol A. Freed Martin and husband Bill, Sandra D. Freed and friend Henry Hatfield both of Columbus, and Mary A. Freed Manter of Oceanside, California; eight grandchildren, several great grandchildren, great great grandchildren, two step daughters, Geraldine “Gerri” James and husband Estel of Waverly, Bobby Jean Uhrig of Chillicothe, Ohio; three step sons, Curley Powers and wife Regina, Jerry Eddie Powers and wife Beverly both of Chillicothe, and Garrett Powers and wife Becky of Waterford, Ohio; 14 step grandchildren and 20 step great grandchildren; a brother, Robert Freed and wife Sylvia of Alexandria, Ohio, a sister, Betty Wright and husband Homer of Columbus, two foster daughters, Ann Powers of Chillicothe, Sue Keppler of Williamsburg, Kentucky and several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, two sons, Jerry D. Freed and James E. Freed, two sisters, Adeline Page and Naomi Freed, two brothers, Kenneth and Joseph Freed, a step son-in-law, Ronald Uhrig, daughter-in-law, Rhonda Erwin and a grandson, John Glispy preceded James in death. James was a retired truck driver for Mason, Dixon, a WWII U.S. Army veteran, a lay leader for Nipgen United Methodist Church and a circuit rider for the United Methodist Churches. Funeral services will be held 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, October 10, 2012 at the Boyer funeral Home in Waverly, with Rev. Hayden Davis officiating. Burial will follow in Twin Township Cemetery, Bourneville, Ohio with Military graveside services performed by the Ross County Honor Guard. He was born August 19, 1927 in Hatch, Ohio the son of the late Will and Ella Dade (Griffith) Smith. On March 14, 1987 John Henry was united in marriage to Carol Ruth (Harrison) Smith who survives. Also surviving are three children, Rena Smith of Piketon, Jonda Smith and husband Rodney Adams of Paducah, Kentucky and Bill Smith and wife Cherry of Lucasville, Ohio; four step children, Judy Fyffe and husband Randy of Waverly, Ohio, Phyllis Wells and husband Dan of South Webster, Ohio, Edward Dunham of Portsmouth, Ohio and Lee Dunham of Peebles, Ohio and numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren. In addition to his parents, two brothers, Ottie and Robie and two sisters, Julie Smith and Malinda Boyd preceded John in death. John Henry was a retired laborer at Landmark, a U.S. Army veteran of WWII, a member of the Orient Lodge 321 F&AM in Waverly, Ohio and he attended Cotties Corner Church in Piketon. Funeral services will be held 11:00 a.m. Monday, October 8, 2012 at Cotties Corner Church, Piketon, with Pastor Danny Campbell officiating. Burial will follow at Cotties Corner Cemetery, Piketon with Military graveside services performed by American Legion Merritt Post # 142 of Waverly. He was born 5 October 1953 in Ross County, Waverly, OH the son of the late Okie Carter and Ruth (Pauley) Carter. Surviving is a daughter, Christina Carter and Philip Beverly II, grandchildren, Alysia Carter and Philip Beverly III, two brothers. Leonard Don Carter and wife Joy and Edward H. Carter and wife Darlene both of Waverly, OH and three sisters, Joyce Evelyn Tackett, Helen Janie Brannan and Ellen June Claytor and Cliff Hughes all of Waverly, OH. Also surviving are several nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews and numerous friends. In addition to his parents, two brothers, Harlan Ray Carter and Okie “Cecil” Carter, Jr. preceded Kenneth Bruce in death. Kenneth Bruce formerly attended Mt Tabor Community Church and was a Maintenance Technician for Scioto Paint Valley Mental Health Center, Chillicothe, OH. Kenneth Bruce was a hard working father, grandfather, brother and uncle who loved his family and friends. All will miss him. Sallie Willson Sallie Lou Willson, 65, of Jasper, Ohio, died Thursday, October 18, 2012 at her home. She was born July 10, 1947 to Helen Emler of Piketon, Ohio. On August 18, 1968, Sallie was united in marriage to Keith Edwin Willson who survives. Also surviving are two daughters, Beth Alexander and husband Ed, Cristi Thompson, both of Piketon, grandchildren, Tyler Lambert, Jonathan Thompson, Cameryn Alexander, Jenna Lou Thompson, and Harrison Alexander, three brothers, Dan Emler and wife Debbie of Florida, Brian Emler and wife Sheila of Mt. Vernon, Ohio, and Tim Emler and wife Kathy of Jasper, as well as her mother-in-law, Donna Willson of Jasper, brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Earl and Cyndie Willson of Milford, Ohio and aunt, Carol Crissman of Jasper. Sallie was preceded in death by her father–in-law, Robert C. Willson. Sallie was a member of the Peebles Seventh Day Adventist Church and also attended the Piketon-Jasper United Methodist Church. She had recently retired after 32 years of service in the Scioto Valley School District in Pike County, and enjoyed her many years in the district, working with the staff and students. He was born June 27, 1956 in Portsmouth, Ohio, to Willard Eugene and Maxine McJunkin Osborne. Tony was a 1974 graduate of Piketon High School, Piketon, Ohio. He was a self employed painter, and enjoyed spending time with his family and friends. Tony lived in Wabash, Indiana the past five years. He is survived by seven brothers, Randy Osborne, Ronnie Osborne, Jimmy Osborne, and Keith Osborne all of Wabash, Robin Osborne of Florida, Randall Osborne, and Galen Osborne, both of Wabash; three sisters, Teresa Shisler of Chillicothe, Ohio, Debbie Osborne of LaFontaine, Indiana, and Bernice Campbell of Wabash. Also surviving are three brothers, Corey Clark, Brandon Shaw and Tyler Shaw, three sisters, Skye Szoke, Christen Clark and Samantha Shaw, paternal grandparents, Roger and Brenda Blythe, Waverly, OH, maternal grandparents Joe and Jaye McMillan of Brooks GA, maternal great grandmother. Karlene Culp, Macon, GA, aunt and uncle, Buffy and Mike Bailey and cousin Austin Pierce of Covington, KY, uncle Max Holt III of Atlanta GA and many other aunts, uncles and cousins. She was born November 9, 1939 in Columbus, Ohio the daughter of the late Anna Mae (Logan) Adams Plymell and Robert Lewis Adams. Surviving are son, David L Schreiber and wife Cindy Pataskala, Ohio, daughters, Beth Ann Pack and husband Richard, Piketon, Ohio and Emily Kay Fann and husband E. Shawn of Garner, North Carolina, 8 grandchildren and one great grandson, and a special friend Connie Damron of Circleville, Ohio. Gail was a graduate of West High, Columbus, Ohio, worked at Ohio Bell as a telephone operator and later as a volunteer at Doctors West Hospital in Columbus, Ohio. Gail enjoyed reading, writing and was a published Poet, She enjoyed spending time with her family and friends. She was dearly loved by all, and will be sorely missed be the community, and her family and friends. Benny Birkhimer Benny Allen Birkhimer, 65, of Waverly, Ohio passed away Monday November 5, 2012 at Adena Regional Medical Center in Chillicothe, Ohio. He was born September 27, 1947 in Pike County, son of the late and loved, Albert and opal Birkhimer. Surviving are his children, Robin Doll, with husband Chase and their two children, Cainan and Jax; Jesse Birkhimer, with girl friend Jessica and their three children, Malayla, Dontay, and Mathius; Bruce Birkhimer, with wife Angela and their two children, Joseph (Jordan) and Ashleigh; and Wayne Birkhimer, with wife Ginger and their three children, Lionel (Adrianne) Dean, Devin (Samantha), and Brett. Benny is also survived by a sister, Judy Adkins; a brother, Joe (Elaine) Birkhimer; two great granddaughters, Cady and Mady; and numerous nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, a brother, Gordon Birkhimer preceded Benny in death. Bennie served in the U.S. Air Force during the Vietnam War and retired from USEC in Piketon, Ohio. Graveside services will be held 2:00 p.m. Thursday, November 8, 2012 at the Beaver Union Cemetery in Beaver, Ohio with Pastor Dale Reed officiating. Justice and wife Rhonda of Waverly, five grandchildren, Josh, Shane and Jason Remy and Courtney and Seth Justice, seven great granddaughters, and a brother, Leon Justice of Newark, Ohio. Bill formerly attended the Waverly First Baptist Church, was retired from Martin Marietta Corporation with 41 years service, a U.S. Air Force veteran of the Korean Conflict and a member of American Legion Merritt Post #142, Waverly. He was born November 27, 1932 in Caldwell, Ohio, son of the late Weldon Homer Osborne and Opal Leona Schilling Osborne. On January 16, 1954, Wallace was united in marriage to Patsy Lee Lowder Osborne, who preceded him in death on December 11, 2010. Also surviving are four children, Kathy Hutchison and husband Jon of Coshocton, Ohio, Nickie Geibel and husband Jeff of Waverly, Jeff Osborne and wife Joyce of Fruitland, Florida, Gary Osborne and wife Kristie if Waycross, Georgia, 17 grandchildren, 35 great grandchildren, two great great grandchildren, two brothers, Dayle Osborne and Gary Osborne both Of Zanesville, Ohio as well as a sister, Gloria Powell of Zanesville. In addition to his parents and wife, a son, Wallace L. Osborne, Jr., a granddaughter, Annie L. Osborne, four brothers and two sisters preceded Wallace in death. Wallace was a retired jig repairman, a U.S. Army veteran having served during the Korean Conflict and a member of the Leesburg First Assembly church in Ocala, Florida. Rowland and wife Michelle of Waverly, five grandchildren, Kyle Jordan and wife Naomi, Nikki Swinning and husband Mark, Stephanie Rowland, Dylan Rowland and wife Megan, and Caleb Rowland and wife Candice, as well as six great grandsons. In addition to her parents and husband, three brothers, Charles “Bud” Bandy, Calvin Massie and John Stanley Massie and a sister, Louise Montgomery preceded Zelma in death. He was born August 13, 1935 in Chillicothe, Ohio, son of the late Sanford Walker and Edith Waldren Walker. On October 22, 1955, Jack was united in marriage to Juanita Recobs Walker, who preceded him in death on July 31, 1980. On September 8, 1981, Jack was united in marriage to Mona J. Maple Walker who survives. Also surviving are his children, Cathy Donahue and husband Ronnie of Waverly, Rick Walker of Jackson, Brenda Walker of Waverly, Tonya Shoemaker and husband Wayne of Waverly, Joyce Hanley and husband Tom of Texas, Twyla Carter and husband Dave of Waverly, 18 grandkids, 14 great grandkids, and one great great grandkid on the way, as well as a brother, Harold Eugene Walker and wife Jeanne of Flagger Beach, Florida. In addition to his parents and first wife, an infant daughter, Angela Walker, infant great grandson, Joshua Finley, daughter, Jeanette McGuire and a brother, Don Walker preceded Jack in death. Jack was retired from the Mead Corporation in Chillicothe, a Life member of the Eagles Lodge, Aeries 600, Chillicothe and a member of the Moose Lodge 2263 of Waverly. Funeral services will be held 11:00 a.m. Monday, November 19, 2012 at the Boyer Funeral Home in Waverly with Pastor Bonnie Lindsey officiating. Burial will follow in Floral Hills Memory Gardens, Chillicothe. Friends may call at the funeral home 4-8 p.m. Sunday and from 9:00 a.m. until the service on Monday. Diane Gardner James, 70, of South High Street, Waverly, OH, died 11:53 P.M. Thursday 22 November 2012 at Adena Regional Medical Center, Chillicothe, OH. She was born 16 October 1942 in Groton, MA the daughter of the late Gardner Westinghouse Brown and Frances Virginia (Burdo) Brown. On 24 December 1966 she was united in marriage to Norman Gene James who preceded her in death on 9 September 2011. Surviving are two sons: Jimmy James and Nick James Both of Waverly, OH, brother, Douglas Brown and wife Jane of Groton, MA, nephews, Matthew Brown and wife Meredith of Seattle, WA, William E. James II and wife Alicia of Columbus, OH, brother-in-law, William E. James and wife Karen of Chillicothe, OH. Also surviving are several other nieces, nephews and special friends, Zariah Hall and Madisym and Jacquelyn Bunch. Diane was a member of the Waverly Grace United Methodist Church, a retired Teacher for the Scioto Valley School District, Piketon, OH and a Service and Support Administrator for the Pike County Board MR DD. Dorothy Stevens Wells (May 16, 1915 – November 23, 2012) Dorothy Stevens Wells was born May 16, 1915 in Westfield, Massachusetts to Florence Loomis Stevens and Harold Mark Stevens. Dottie and her sister, Ruth, were raised by their parents in the home built by their grandparents, Merwin and Lydia Loomis. She graduated in music education from Oberlin College in 1938, and taught public school music in Louisville, KY and Westfield, MA. Returning to Oberlin for graduate work, she met and married Richard Albert Wells in 1945. They moved to Pittsburgh where Dick taught at Carnegie Mellon. Dottie began teaching in a preschool operated by her church, now Eastminster Presbyterian, in 1955. In 1966 she joined the War on Poverty, teaching in Head Start. She became head teacher at the Point Park College laboratory preschool in 1967. In 1981, Dick and Dottie moved to Bristol Village, a retirement community in Waverly OH, where they enjoyed an active life. Dottie sang in the Bristol Village chorale and conducted the women’s chorus. She began a fascination with hummingbirds, led several community organizations, took up basket weaving, and, with her sister, established the “Bristol Nook,” a gift shop selling residents’ arts and crafts. Dottie lost Dick to cancer in 1987; she remained in Bristol Village until a move in 2000 to Glen Arden Retirement Community in Goshen, NY. Her activities there included teaching basket making and taking up painting. She died at Glen Arden on November 23, 2012. Dottie is survived by daughter and son-in-law, Ruth Wells and Jim Knight of Peekskill, NY, daughter and son-in-law, Betsy Wells and Jerry Allen and their daughter, Leah Allen of Seattle, WA, niece, Judy Moore, and grand-nephew, Jonathan Moore, both of Searsport, ME. In lieu of flowers, please send donations to the Bristol Village Foundation or a charity of your choice. Funeral service will be held 11:30 a.m. Friday, November 30, 2012 at the Boyer Funeral Home in Waverly with Rev. Richard S. Hayes officiating. Burial will follow in Evergreen Union Cemetery. Everett R. Montgomery Everett Ray Montgomery, 58, of Waldren Hill Road, Piketon, Ohio, passed away on Tuesday November 27, 2012 at the Adena Regional Medical Center in Chillicothe, Ohio. He was born July 8, 1954 in Piketon, son of the late Oshel Montgomery and Lucy Russell Montgomery. Surviving is a sister, Lois Pinkerton and husband Ernie of Forest City, North Carolina, a sister-in-law, Jean Montgomery, special friend Bertha Thompson as well as several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, two brothers, Ollie and Robert Montgomery preceded Everett in death. Everett was a retired construction laborer and a member of the Straight Creek Enterprise Baptist Church at Waverly, Ohio. Funeral services will be held 11:00 a.m. Saturday, December 1, 2012 at the Boyer Funeral Home in Waverly with Bro. Henry Ward and Rev. Jared McKinney officiating. Burial will follow in Mt.
